Vosges Munster, a treasure from the farms
While Munster is shared between Alsace and Lorraine, the Vosges slopes produce renowned farmhouse versions. In the high-altitude marcairies, cheesemakers present their soft, raw-milk cheeses, often with cumin. You open the box, smell the strong perfume, taste it with a slice of rye bread and a glass of white wine: impossible to stay serious, smiles come on their own.
Blueberry tarts and jams
In summer, wild blueberries carpet the high-altitude undergrowth. They end up in the golden tarts of the local bakeries, which the Vosgiens take real pride in. In Plombières-les-Bains, jam-makers extend the season into jars. Sharing a slice of tart on a terrace after a walk is one of the simplest dates… and one of the most reliable for keeping the chat going in good spirits.
Mirabelle, markets and Christmas markets
On the festive side, the Vosges distils an excellent Mirabelle plum eau-de-vie, to enjoy with moderation and plenty of pleasure. The Gérardmer and Saint-Dié-des-Vosges markets, especially in winter with their Christmas chalets, offer a magical setting for a date. On Lyad, members from the Vosges share their favourite addresses; it is up to you to find someone to raise a glass with.
